How to lure your children outside even on cold days
It is cold, grey, and maybe even wet outside – and it is simply much cozier inside. Nevertheless, fresh air does you good, especially after long days at school, daycare, or at home. With a little preparation and the right ideas, even a winter day outdoors becomes a small adventure.
We have three simple tips on how to motivate your children to go out despite the cold and mud and enjoy the winter together outside.
1. Create a nature mandala
Nature mandalas are fun in winter too, only nature looks completely different then. Instead of colorful leaves, you will find pinecones, pieces of bark, stones, moss, or small twigs. You can create great patterns out of all of these, right on the forest floor or in the snow. This turns whatever nature has to offer at the moment into a small work of art that slowly blends back into the environment. Completely without craft supplies, but with plenty of creativity and mindfulness.

2. Winter picnic
A winter picnic in the forest sounds like a lot of effort at first – but it's worth it! Fresh air, physical activity, and a little change from the everyday routine are good for everyone. With warm fruit punch in a thermal mug and a few favorite snacks in your backpack, even a short trip becomes a little highlight. So bundle up warmly, head out, and enjoy the moment. The recipe for the fruit punch can be found on our foundation website: Fruit punch recipe.

3. Craft a mobile
While walking through the forest or park, children quickly find little treasures like pinecones, twigs, leaves, or seed pods. At home, you can then make yourselves comfortable in the warmth and craft a beautiful mobile out of them. With a small drill, some string, and a branch or ring, the finds can be easily attached. This turns what you collected on your walk into an individual piece of natural art and a lovely memory of your day outside.
