The summer holidays are drawing to a close and the start of school is just around the corner – time for a very special "Schultüte" (school cone)! With our DIY guide, you can craft a lovingly designed school cone featuring cute forest animals in no time at all – perfect for little nature lovers. Whether it’s a fox, a squirrel, or a hedgehog: this animal-themed school cone will make children’s eyes light up.
To go with it, we have a free printable class schedule, of course featuring forest animal motifs, and delicious organic snacks from MOGLi. This way, the first school year starts with plenty of joy and a love for nature.
We will show you how to craft a forest-themed school cone for your kids and what you will need.
Materials for your forest animal school cone
- Large poster board in your chosen color (70×100 cm)
- Crepe paper for the closure (at least 70x50 cm)
- Scissors, ruler, pencil, double-sided tape
- Yarn or cord
- MOGLi fox or squirrel template
- Decoration materials (dried flowers, leaves, feathers, colorful ribbons, etc.)
Instructions:
1. Cutting the blank: The standard size for a school cone is 70 x 70 cm. To cut your poster board to the right dimensions, you will need a compass. But don't worry, if you don't have one, you can easily make one yourself.
And this is how: Measure your poster board and mark the dimensions. Then take a piece of yarn or cord. Measure out 70 cm of it and tie a pencil to one end. Next, place the pencil on your mark and stretch the end of the cord to the bottom corner of your poster board. Now, with the cord held taut, draw a semi-circle until you reach your second mark. For a mini school cone, simply cut it smaller.
2. Rolling the blank: Cut along the line and start rolling it up to form a pointed cone. Dampen the bottom corner with a little water to make the poster board easier to roll. Afterwards, you can tape both sides together with double-sided tape or a hot glue gun.
Tip: If you’re in a rush, you can also buy ready-made blanks.
3. Designing the closure: Cut the crepe paper to 70 cm x 50 cm. Attach the long side of the crepe paper to the top edge of the school cone with double-sided tape. Simply cover the edge with a pretty ribbon; it makes the transition look much nicer.
4. Decorating: Download our MOGLi fox template in A4 or MOGLi squirrel template in A4, print it out, and cut it out. Then glue it onto the school cone. Afterward, decorate your cone with colorful leaves, dried flowers, feathers, or ribbons. Let your creativity run wild here. 🎉
